A new addition to this series of books examining the first-generation tramways of towns and cities around England. This volume covers the Lancashire town of Bolton, Wigan and St Helens, as well as South Lancashire Tramways, which operated around Leigh and the surrounding areas.
A short history and introduction introduction to trams in each location is included, along with a number of archive black & white photographs taken during the tramway's period of operation. Lack of funding and the replacement of tram routes with buses led to all apart from Bolton's tramways having disappeared by the end of World War II.
Operators featured in this volume include:
- Bolton Corporation
- Farnworth UDC
- St Helens
- South Lancashire Tramways
- Wigan & District Tramways Co Ltd
- Wigan Corporation
