The March 2024 issue of Today's Railways UK is full of interesting articles and features covering all aspects of Britain’s railways, plus all the very latest news from across Britain’s railway network. This month we look in depth at new trains on Britain’s railways, but we also include all our regular monthly sections covering light rail, heritage railways, preservation and railtours, with readers’ letters and our grumpy old man also in attendance.
Feature articles this month include:
East Midlands Railway: The Masterplan: East Midlands Railway's Fleet Director, Ian Hyde, presented an update on EMR's rolling stock "Masterplan" to the Derby Railway Engineering Society on 18 January, with a particular focus on the new Class 810s which are now due to enter service from early 2025. Robert Pritchard reports.
Railway Junctions in Profile: Clay Cross: In his latest article looking at well-known railway junctions, Andy Flowers provides a guide to Clay Cross, on the Midland Main Line to the south of Chesterfield.
Northern Diagram and Formation Update: Robin James provides his usual New Year update to the latest Northern diagrams and timetables.
Farewell to the Class 319s: In Today's Railways UK 170 (February 2016), we carried a feature looking back at the lives of BREL Class 319s. Nick Lawford, a daily commuter on the class for many years, now brings the story up to date, as the last of the 319s was withdrawn from service at the start of the year.
Rolling Stock Special: New Trains on Order: Robert Pritchard and Ian Beardsley present our annual summary of all new rolling stock that is currently on order and we also look at the latest figures charting the average age of the current British fleets and provide a summary of the major Stock Changes during 2023.
Riding the c2c Class 720s: In autumn last year, c2c introduced its new but small fleet of Class 720/6 Aventras into service. Robert Pritchard takes his first ride on the new trains and compares the interiors with the simular Greater Anglia Class 720s, which were examined in detail in TRUK 238.
The Bridgwater "Flasks": Josh Brinsford looks at the operation of the popular Bridgwater nuclear flask trains, which in early 2024 have now been operated by DRS for 25 years.
