An illustrated review of London buses between 1979 and 1994, a period of great change in the bus industry. In 1979, following its general election win, the Conservative government began planning to deregulate bus services and privatise operating companies in England, Scotland and Wales.
London's bus network was broken up into several areas and in 1985, a tendering system was introduced to allow operators to bid for routes. In 1992, the timetable for privatisation was announced and this was complete by the end of 1994.
This book presents a review of each year between 1979 and 1994, with each chapter looking at key events to take place during the year, as well as examining fleet changes such as bus types entering or retiring from service. Each chapter is illustrated with a number of colour photographs taken during the year. Appendices also take a look at the London bus fleet throughout this period.
