In British Buses and Coaches in the 1960s Jim Blake has selected a broad range of photographs from his extensive archive of road transport negatives, and has used them to review the bus and coach operators active in the 1960s.

Produced in two volumes, the other covering London Transport, this volume focuses on the numerous other bus and coach firms operational in the period around 1968, when the National Bus Company was formed.

Covering a time during which there was great social and economic change in Britain, it covers a wide variety of vehicles, old and new, from fleets up and down the country. Includes some interesting shots of buses adapted for a variety of purposes, such as towing vehicles; tree-loppers; a snow-clearance vehicle; a Derby Corporation tower wagon, adapted for maintenance on the trolleybus routes; a pre-war AEC Regal from Premier, Stainforth in South Yorkshire which the Lincolnshire Road Car Company modified in 1951 by lengthening its chassis to 30ft to accommodate the new Saunders 39-seat rear entrance bodywork and another pre-war AEC Regal which had been fitted with a water tank on its roof and was used by Nottingham City Transport as a staff canteen!

Over 300 black & white illustrations. Hardback. 192 pages.
