A collection of good quality black & white photographs from the 1950s and 1960s taken by acclaimed photographer, Peter Gray, and featuring narrow gauge lines in Austria. Peter Gray is the author of several photographic albums featuring steam in the West Country, but he also travelled widely in Europe, capturing images of a world which would soon be transformed by the relentless march of progress.
This volume records his visits to no less than 15 Austrian narrow gauge lines, capturing a time when the country remained unspoilt and the railways played a vital role in transporting both freight and passengers. The narrow gauge and independent railways at this time, with their archaic and rustic charm, had often changed little in half a century.
Steam on the Narrow Gauge and Independent Lines of Austria depicts a fascinating variety of steam traction, captured by an enthusiast who combined technical skill with an excellent eye for a photograph. The images are presented in one-per-page format and are accompanied by caption detail. A basic description of each featured line is also included. 80 pages.
