In Hungarian Railways Explored the author, David Dunton, opens by giving a brief history of Hungary, followed by a general look at the country’s railways. The main subject of the book however is the PTG’s rail enthusiast tour which he went on in September 2013.
Based in Budapest, the Hungarian tour covered 8 days, from the 4th to the 11th September, and David lists the tour’s itinerary for that period. He then goes on to describe in detail all the locomotive haulage, places of interest, events and activities which the group were involved in. He also gives details of the Budapest Metro, the Children’s Railway, the Budapest Cog-Wheel Railway and Railjet. On the last day David had switched his flight home from an early morning, to an early evening departure and spent the extra time sight-seeing.
