This book contains a series of photographs illustrating the transport of extraordinary loads, in terms of size and/or weight, on Germany's railways. Photographs cover the period from the early 20th century through to the present day, with loads such as transformers, liquid pig iron and military vehicles illustrated.

Some over-sized loads would have to take circuitous routes, sometimes travelling much further than the most direct routes, in order to reach their destination by rail, bringing lesser-seen locomotive types to these routes.

With the modernisation of industries, loads such as molten iron can be seen less frequently in recent times, but these loads have been replaced by other loads such as rotor blades for wind turbines.

Over 190 colour and black & white photographs and a series of wagon sketches are included, with all photographs accompanied by captions. German text. Hardback. 144 pages.
