An illustrated history of the Mosel Valley Railway, a 102 km scenic narrow gauge line that closed in the 1960s.
In April 1903, the first section of the Mosel Valley Railway from Trier to Leiwen was officially opened and in August 1905 the entire route was completed. The line, affectionately known as the "little train" connected the idyllically situated villages of the middle Mosel valley, with a journey time of around four hours. During the 1960s, the line was closed in stages as passenger and freight traffic dipped.
In this book, renowned historian and author Karl-Josef Gilles recalls the checkered history of the line using over 220 previously unpublished photographs. He recalls the construction, operation and closure of the railway.
