An illustrated survey of Waterloo Station and the train services that operate to and from the famous terminus. The book starts with a history of the station and a description of its layout and facilities.
This is followed by a summary of the rolling stock used on services out of Waterloo, and descriptions of each of the routes served within the London Travelcard area, including historical information and a summary of passenger and freight services.
For many years London Waterloo was the busiest station on the national rail network, and although no longer holding this position today the terminus continues to play a vital part in the movement of passengers to and from the capital. The station has a remarkable history, having replaced the original London & South Western Railway terminal at Nine Elms in 1848 followed by a complete rebuild in the early 20th century.
More recently the terminus has undergone further change with the coming and going of Eurostar services, whose move to St Pancras has freed up more space for domestic trains once again. Despite the end of regular loco-hauled trains the electric multiple unit fleet used on services out of Waterloo is still interesting and varied in terms of age and character.
