A superb album of black & white photos of the Southern Railway West Country and Battle of Britain class steam locos arranged in numerical order with one or two photos of each loco. In some cases, the loco is depicted both in unrebuilt condition with air-smoothed casing on the boiler (which led to the class being nicknamed “Spam Cans” because of their distinctive shape) and after rebuilding with the casing removed. There are also close-up views of some of the nameplates.
The locos are depicted on shed and hauling passenger and freight trains all over the Southern Region including some now closed and much lamented lines and stations such as Bath Green Park and Padstow.
Over 200 photos. 208 pages. Hardback.
